Posted: September 27th, 2008 6:28 PM
A Yamhill-area man was critically injured Saturday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a passenger car on Highway 240 about two miles east of Yamhill.
On September 27, 2008 at approximately 2:05 p.m. a 2006 Infiniti four-door driven by CHARLES REIDY, age 44, from Vancouver, Washington was westbound on Highway 240 near milepost 2 coming out of a left curve when it encountered an eastbound 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle appearing to have lost control. The motorcycle came across into the eastbound lane as REIDY was slowing to a near stop and collided into the front of the Infiniti.
The motorcycle's operator, JIM HENRY AHLS, age 54, from Yamhill, was ejected and critically injured. AHLS was transported by LifeFlight to Oregon Health Sciences University. He was wearing a protective helmet.
REIDY and his female passenger were not injured. They were using safety restraints.
Oregon State Police troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Information indicates AHLS purchased the motorcycle today and was on his first ride when the crash occurred.
Local fire personnel, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office and ODOT assisted at the scene. Highway 240 was closed about 90 minutes.
